safe + sound is an audio collective formed by myself and Kit Callin. We run sonic open mic nights, lead workshops on audio making, and install immersive sound experiences at festivals.
safe + sound runs audio open mic immersive audio installations. We ask for submissions on a different theme, and anyone who wants to submit literally any audio they want as long as it’s under 7 minutes. In 2026, we ran the safe + sound pub at HearSay Festival. In 2025, we hosted an event at XMTR festival on the beach where you could only listen to our submissions if you were partially submerged in water. In 2024, we ran a sound installation on the theme of ‘murmurations’ inspired by the work of adrienne maree brown.
We also run open mic nights – we record in front of an audience, with live performances and DJs too. Recordings of each event are played on Resonance FM. Have a lil listen. Kit and I are both facilitators! In 2026, we ran the first ever safe + sound school. Previously, we ran a free 10 week intro to audio course for LGBT people through Alphabet Radio, and ran a workshop on process interviewing at Tremula Festival.
