ABOUT

I’m a multi award winning freelance audio producer, sound designer and youth worker. I was the Senior Producer of VENT – which was named Podcast of the Year at the British Podcast Awards 2021. I founded Boldface, a CIC making radio with young people. I’ve produced audio for organisations like Prison Radio Association, BBC, Serpentine Galleries, Somerset House, VICE, The Empathy Museum and Resonance FM. I made a documentary on eradicating short term prison sentences for women on BBC Radio 4 – you can listen to it here.

Radio and podcasts are magical – there’s an intimacy to audio that feels unique. I love working on projects that that bring joy to people, open up hard conversations, and make people feel seen. I also LOVE experimenting with sound design, and coming up with new, compelling structures and ways of platforming voices and stories in sound. I’m interested in working with companies that have signed the Equality in Audio Pact, and who are actively conscious in the role they play in breaking down structural inequality.

I love training people to make their own audio. I’ve run training sessions for people from 6 to 70 years old, and I have helped organisations develop their own training too. If you or your organisation is interested in workshops – hit me up! I’ve worked a lot with people – presenters and producers – who haven’t made audio before, which is something I really enjoy. I’m good at making people feel comfortable to do the stuff they think they can’t do.

Outside of radio [and national lockdowns], you can find me in the pub, playing bike polo and listening to a lot of Dolly Parton.

If you’d like to work together, I’d love to hear from you! You can find me @JesseLRadio on Twitter or you can email me at jessjgl [at] gmail [dot] com.

This is my favourite Dolly song:
