NO KIDS

NO KIDS is a slightly interactive live audio performance. It’s a show where I ask everyone I can think of – from my mum, to the audience, to my friend’s 4 year old – to help me decide whether or not to have children. Through this, I explore the queer art of world building, when you can’t find templates for what your life could look like in mainstream culture. I have performed at HearSay Festival, Oorzaken Festival, XMTR Fest and In the Dark in London.

I really enjoy performing this piece. I have a full recording of it, so please get in touch if you’re interested and would like to hear more.

‘I can’t stop thinking about NO KIDS. It is such a fun hour but one of the things that’s so particularly brilliant about it is the quality of the audience participation Jesse manages to tease out; what I experienced both times I’ve seen the piece is a really nuanced, thoughtful, world-expanding set of reflections that makes me go out into the world and wonder what else is going through the minds of the strangers on the bus, in the street or whatever queue I’m in. Yes, it is about The Kid Question but more than that, it’s a show about the art of making choices. It’s such a reminder to tread carefully and thoughtfully.’
