How to Look 30 When You Are 30 – BBCR4

I found a pamphlet of advice for trans masculine people published in 1985 by Lou Sullivan. It had a section about how people often mistake 30 year old trans mascs for 14 year old boys, and what to do about it. So I followed all of Lou’s instructions.

This is a piece about the beautiful mutual aid of trans communities, and reclaiming our history in the context of a moral panic that presents transness as a new and threatening phenomenon.

In it, you’ll hear the voices of my boyfriend Fen Williams, and of the incredible Susan Stryker and Tuck Woodstock.

It originally aired on BBC Radio 4’s Short Cuts. Listen to the full episode here or here. Many thanks to Falling Tree for commissioning xxx

I really love making creative, shorter form pieces and I am always looking to be commissioned to make more! Have a listen to some others I’ve made here.
